A Chalice or goblet is a footed cup intended to hold a drink; in a religious context it is sued for drinking during a ceremony.
The word Chalice derived from the Latin calix and the Ancient Greek κύλιξ which translates to mug and cup respectively. 
Its meaning can change depending on the time and context, in Christianity it represents The Eucharist. 
Filling it with wine to represent the blood of Chrit and dipping in bread to represent the body of Christ.
